Parasyte Reimagined Again

Hey, Otaku’s!

Some news about a new Parasyte entry, titled Parasyte: The Grey, has sparked some mixed reactions among fans. The beloved manga from the late 80s to mid 90s has been adapted more than once and reviews are scattered.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has also received some exciting news, as it’s getting a prequel novel set before Frieren’s “I want to get to know people” adventure. The novel is set to release on April 17th this year

Here’s what’s on today’s agenda:

  • A small look into why fans are worried about the new Parasyte live action series.

  • Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End prequel novel set to release this April!

  • An overview of Frieren’s true strength.

Parasyte has a long history, dating back to the beloved Manga. Can Live Action truly Compare?

The official Parasyte subreddit has blown up as news of a new Korean Parasyte Live Action movie has been spreading over the last couple of days. A poster was released by Netflix just the other day and fans seem to be rather dismissive about it.

Perhaps this skepticism is due to Netflix having an extremely hard time making good live action adaptations. It’s no secret that Netflix has released several anime adaptations that are not only commercial failures, but failures to the community around the anime title in general.

There are exception to this, however.

One Piece, the Netflix Adaptation

Netflix has almost always been hit or miss on their adaptations, but they have a few good ones. Most notably One Piece, which was a massive hit among the anime and manga fans.

Parasyte is not new to adaptations at all. We have an anime and 2 live action movies already. While the live action movies were sort of well received but not amazing, the Anime blew everyone out of the water. Its message about not only cherishing the planet and everyone in it, but also not taking people and things for granted really reached a lot of people.

What do you think? Hopefully this will be another one of Netflix’s hits, not one of their flops.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End set to get a series of Novels starting April!

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, which I will just call Frieren from now on, seemingly came out of nowhere near the end of last year and took the world by storm. A surprisingly fresh take on the fantasy genre as a whole, Frieren is set after the big bad is already defeated and the world is already saved.

At least from the Demon King. People and Demons are still very much an issue.

While a lot of people love that this takes place after the big adventure is already over, a lot of people don’t like that. Regardless of your take, don’t expect this book to cover Frieren’s big adventure, because this novel is set as a prequel to the anime and manga, but not so far back that the Demon King is around.

The novel is said to be a collection of short stories covering Frieren, Fern, Stark, Lawine, Kanne and Aura, and it’s about what they got up to before the series itself started. It’s more of a collection of lore for each of the characters, to explain why they are who they are better than the original manga did.

Frieren is insanely powerful.

There are some spoilers for episodes 8 and 9 of Frieren in this section.

Frieren likes to keep a low profile. So low, in fact, that most people don’t even remember her previous feats. She’s taken on entire armies by herself, killed Demon’s powerful enough to take on the world, and saved the planet with just a small group of people.

The anime explains this, but we don’t actually get to see it until around episode 8 and 9, when a powerful Demon that Frieren actually knows starts poking around in a nearby kingdom. Frieren single handedly defeats not only Aura, a Demon known to have enslaved and killed thousands of soldiers, but also defeats her entire army after revealing her true power.

Frieren showing Aura a fraction of her true power

Frieren has said before that normal mages have defeated her due to speed, while Frieren herself is rather sluggish. The difference is, Frieren’s spells will absolutely obliterate anything in her path. Her opponents may have defeated her in the past, but never killed her. The reasoning for this is simple, either someone saved her or they couldn’t kill her.

Know the meme:

Has Frieren reminded you of someone? If you said Anya Forger from SpyxFamily, then you may be on to something. Atsumi Tanezaki is the voice actress for both Anya and Frieren. One of the most popular memes in the anime community over the last few years was Anya’s weird face, which was actually taken up by Frieren as a reference!
