Ikoku Nikki Manga Gets Anime

Series Key Visual

Exciting news for manga fans! Tomoko Yamashita's josei manga, Ikoku Nikki (Diary of a Strange Land), is making its way to the small screen as a TV anime. The main staff, along with a teaser trailer and visual, have been unveiled for this newly announced series. While the release date is still under wraps, fans eagerly await more details.

Originally serialized in Shodensha's Feel Young manga magazine from June 2017 to June 2023, Ikoku Nikki spanned 11 collected volumes in Japan.

Ikoku Nikki tells the story of Makio Koudai, a 35-year-old novelist who leads a solitary life due to her shy and socially awkward nature. Everything changes when tragedy strikes, and Makio takes in her 15-year-old niece, Asa Takumi, after her sister and brother-in-law's untimely death in a traffic accident. Initially struggling to connect due to their contrasting personalities, Makio and Asa's relationship gradually blossoms into something truly special and irreplaceable. Keep an eye out for more updates on this heartfelt tale!

New Channel Launches with Speed Racer & Marine Boy Animes This Summer

Speed Racer

Speed Racer, the iconic classic anime, is revving up for a digital comeback! With fans spanning generations, this "demon on wheels" is set to zoom onto digital platforms and a brand-new channel dedicated to classic cartoons.

MeTV, a Collaboration Between Weigel Broadcasting and Warner. Bros Discovery, is expanding its retro lineup to include old-school animation, introducing MeTV Toons. This 24/7 channel will feature a nostalgic array of cartoons, including the original Speed Racer series, which hit screens in the late 1960s. While it was among the first anime to captivate Western audiences, many viewers were unaware of its Japanese roots at the time.

Joining Speed Racer on MeTV Toons is Marine Boy, another early anime gem from 1965 and one of the first to receive an English dub. But the fun doesn't stop with anime—Western classics like Silverhawks, Bugs Bunny & Friends, Tom and Jerry, Popeye, Scooby-Doo, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Jonny Quest, and possibly even Challenge of the Gobots are slated for the channel's lineup. The channel launches June 25th.

Pokémon and Krispy Kreme Partner for Donut Release

Pokemon Donuts via Krispy Kreme

Get ready to satisfy your sweet tooth because Pokémon and Krispy Kreme are teaming up for an exciting collaboration! Donuts inspired by Pikachu and other beloved Pokémon will soon be available in various mouth-watering flavors.

According to the Pokeshopper X account on Twitter, Krispy Kreme will partner with the Nintendo franchise to offer an exclusive lineup of donuts. From Pikachu to Ditto, Diglett, Jigglypuff, and Psyduck, each donut will be modeled after an iconic Pokémon character. And if you're curious about the flavors, the Snackolator account on Instagram has the scoop. Picture strawberry milk cream for Ditto, dark chocolate for Diglett, and strawberry-filled goodness for Jigglypuff. As for Pikachu and Psyduck, prepare for a lemony treat and a unique "cream of the corn" flavor.

But here's the catch: this special collaboration is currently only available in South Korea. North American Pokémon fans will have to wait for now. But given Pokémon's global popularity, there's hope that these delightful treats will make their way to other countries like the United States in the future. Until then, Pokémon trainers in South Korea are in for a delicious adventure!

And just when the Swifties thought they ran the world...

Taylor Swift and Monkey D. Luffy

In a quirky twist, a recent news article featuring Taylor Swift and Ice Spice ended up becoming a playground for One Piece fans. A mere mention of One Piece on an Instagram post about Taylor Swift led to a flood of memes and references from the anime series, with everyone's favorite pirate, Monkey D. Luffy, stealing the spotlight.

@EverythingOOC via X

Thanks to the Everything Out Of Context account on X (formerly Twitter), the clip and news post, humorously titled Ice Spice Reveals the One Piece of Advice Taylor Swift Gave Her, set off a wave of pirate-themed hilarity in the comments. Despite the playful mix-up, Taylor Swift's genuine advice—"No matter what, just keep making music and everything's going to be fine"—didn't dampen the fans' excitement one bit!
