Anya Meets Chainsaw
Hey, everyone!
Toonami is still working on an adaptation for the famed late 90s manga, Uzumaki. Delays are often inevitable when it comes to large scale animation, but this one has been delayed several times. A release date is supposed to be released sometime this year.
Jujutsu Kaisen had the best animation of 2023, according to AnimeCorner’s best animation list. It was a fierce competition, as it was against massive titles such as Attack on Titan, Frieren, Demon Slayer, and many more.
Here’s what’s going on in the world of anime today:
What’s going on with the Uzumaki anime?
Anya and Chainsaw Man have a collab?!
Jujutsu Kaisen once again made headlines this year for having the best animation of all 2023 anime.
When is the Uzumaki anime that Adult Swim promised us going to come out?

It’s no secret that this anime is highly anticipated. It was announced back in 2019, which is sadly right before Covid hit America at full strength. After the pandemic hit, speculation is that the anime was put on hiatus, most likely for over a year.
What is Uzumaki?
In short, Uzumaki is an action packed horror manga that starts off seemingly normal following Kirie Goshima and her boyfriend Shuichi Saito. As the couple live a relatively normal life, people begin becoming obsessed with shapes. Specifically spiral shapes. After a while, people start dying in odd ways. Without spoilers that’s all I can say, but it’s universally loved for good reason. So when can you expect a release date?
There are several sources with contradicting information.

Some sources say that it’s indefinitely delayed, forced to sit in limbo without ever seeing the light of day. Adult Swim hasn’t said that themselves, though, so it’s probably not true. Others say that we’re supposed to get an announcement sometime this year, with either a release date or more information about the project before the end of 2024. What we do know for sure is that when it does release, it will first air on Toonami in the U.S. before moving overseas to Japan.
Another extremely unlikely collaboration, AnyaXChainsaw Man figure has been announced.
So far 2024 has been the year of really odd collabs. This keeps to that narrative. This figure is set to release in September of this year and depicts Anya, from the massive success SpyXFamily, joining forces with Pochita, from another massive success Chainsaw Man, to bring you an odd clash of worlds. It will be for sale on ZH Studio’s website.

Technically speaking, with Anya’s mind reading ability paired with Pochita’s chainsaw form, this is effectively a killing machine. Knowing Anya, though, she would definitely only help people. That’s what makes this such an odd collab. It looks amazing though, so no harm no foul? A great collectors Item to remind you how good 2022 was for anime.
Jujutsu Kaisen once again topped the charts in terms of animation in 2023, according to AnimeCorner.

Jujutsu Kaisen is pretty much known for its animation. Mappa, the studio behind the anime, is famous for amazing animation anyway. They’ve produced the likes of Attack on Titan, Chainsaw Man, Vinland Saga, Yuri on Ice, and many more. When you read an action packed manga and are hopeful for a fluid adaptation, Mappa is the studio most people want their favorite manga to go to.
Even if Jujutsu Kaisen would have lost…
At number 2 on the list of best animation 2023 was Attack on Titan. Meaning if Jujutsu Kaisen would have lost, Mappa would have still won. They managed to secure both the 1st and 2nd place on the list.
Not far from the throne sitting at number 3 is Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and at number 4 is Demon Slayer To the Swordsmith Village. It was a close race to the top last year but Mappa absolutely destroyed it and secured both places at the top. We can expect more of the same this year, as Mappa has no intentions of slowing down.

What makes Jujutsu Kaisen so special?
The fight scenes! The animation is just so fluid, the choreography is on point most of the time, and overall, the artwork is just beautiful even when the story is sad. Everyone who has watched Jujutsu Kaisen, regardless of if they liked the story, has witnessed how amazing this anime looks. Mappa, once again, blew the animation out of the water. Few anime deserve it more than Jujutsu Kaisen.
Trivia Time!
Mappa is a large animation studio, so large you probably haven’t seen all of their Anime. Which of these 2 anime were made by Mappa?

Trick question, Mappa made both! Check out their other titles on MyAnimeList. It’s a massive list with many genres.
